Paul Salamunovich

Paul Salamunovich has been the Music Director at St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood since 1949. He has long been recognized for his contributions to the field of sacred music and was honored by the Vatican in 1969 with a Papal Knighthood in the Order of St. Gregory.

In April 2001, Dr. Salamunovich was named Music Director Emeritus of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, capping his ten-year term as its Director and marking the culmination of a lifetime association with both the Chorale and its founder, Roger Wagner. Dr. Salamunovich was a Charter Member of the organization and was, for twenty-four years, Assistant Conductor of both the Roger Wagner and the Los Angeles Master Chorales. In 1998 Dr. Salamunovich and the Master Chorale received a Grammy nomination for the "Best Choral Performance" for their recording of music of Lauridsen – Lux Aeterna. This overwhelmingly successful recording is still heard all over the world.

Dr. Salamunovich has also earned national and international attention as an esteemed conductor and educator. He began his teaching career at Mount St. Mary's College in 1957, while still a student himself. Dr. Salamunovich joined the part-time faculty of Loyola University in 1964; he became a full-time member in 1973 and remained on the faculty as Director of Choral Activities at what is now Loyola Marymount University for twenty-seven years. He was promoted to the rank of Full Professor in 1980. The University awarded him an honorary doctorate and Professor Emeritus status in 1993.

During his career, Dr. Salamunovich has conducted clinics and festivals throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas, South America, Europe, Australia and the Far East. He has also conducted at an unprecedented four consecutive ACDA National Conventions: with the LMU Men's Chorale in 1987, their Women's Chorus in 1989, the St. Charles Borromeo Choir in 1991 and the L.A. Master Chorale in 1993. In November 2003 Dr. Salamunovich conducted the St. Petersburg Philharmonic along with the Master Chorale of the USA in the Mozart Requiem at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome for the concluding concert of the 2nd annual Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra.

Dr. Salamunovich has been responsible for choral music in numerous feature films and television productions. These projects include such films as First Knight, Air Force One, Sum of All Fears, Steven Spielberg's A.I. and Sony's XXX.
